The Scandinavian Defense (also known as the Center Counter Defense) is one of the oldest chess openings, first recorded in 1475 and being mentioned by Lucena in 1497. The opening is very popular among chess beginners and is playable at the master level, but usually it is used as surprise weapon for Black opening.

The Scandinavian has been proved as playable for Black, allowing to challenge White's center and activate the Black queen. After 1.e4, Black at once goes for 1... d5. The first 20 were analyzed by a chess engine at the end of the opening phase to highlight who is better and to show you best lines to go for the middlegame.

The Alekhine Defense games were not selected by any special criterion and not sorted by playing lines. 300 chess master games in the PGN file. Of them: • 41 games are the Scandinavian variation; • 239 games run via the Main line (the Exchange variation - 90, Modern - 84, Four Pawns attack - 12, Two Pawns attack - 8).
